Everyone has heard about asbestos, but how many of us actually know what it is and the risks it poses for every Australian within their homes?
Asbestos Awareness.com.au defines asbestos as “a naturally-occurring fibrous silicate mineral. It was considered a versatile product, because it is able to withstand heat, erosion and decay and has fire and water resistant properties.”
Asbestos, however, becomes dangerous when fibres are released into the air and breathed in and hence, everyone is at risk. Those at a higher risk of asbestos inhalation include older houses and buildings that are being renovated (such as tearing down walls and ceilings).
