Australia rocks out at design awards

“Australian design has long laboured under a Scandinavian sky: blonde wood abounds, Arne Jacobsen is god and all is well with the world. Except that mimicking a dated aesthetic with roots elsewhere is increasingly being dismissed as derivative (read inferior), “Auskandi” style.

But if last night’s Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Awards are anything to go by, that’s about to change.
